LMF aka Lazy Mutha Fuckaz was the very first hiphop/metal/rock/punk band in Hong Kong made up by many different artists from Hong Kong's underground music scene.
It wasn't until the early 90's that they decided to have a full roster and become an official LMF band.
They grew to be one of the most popular underground bands mainly because Hong Kong has always been very conservative and they seemed to have a more rebellious agenda at hand. However the conservative Hong Kong media would often scrutinize them for foul language in their songs and lyrics but not commending them for their focus on social issues for Hong Kong youth, financial crisis, Chinese pride and identity and Western influence in Hong Kong. They also blasted the entertainment community in Hong Kong and was considered the black sheep of the herd and always going against the grain.
The reason behind this particular post that you're reading now, is not that I really listen to their music at all and to be honest my friends played a few of their songs in the 90's one night and of course we had a good laugh about all the foul language but I wasn't focused on the lyrics. Besides my Chinese isn't that strong at all to grasp all the topics and serious issues they would cover in their songs. However, the thing that caused this post, is basically because I was suddenly reminded of the documentary about the band called Dare Ya.
Many of the things expressed towards the Hong Kong society, media, music scene, social issues for Chinese youth by the band is something that is still very important on a worldwide scale. The many personalities in this band make them entertaining and very captivating as well. Besides they do a great job explaining their views on things and as you can see for yourself, they don't always agree about everything but they do seem to make their own perfect recipe for music. I love how passionate they all talk about the music, the media and all the simple things in life. Through all the rough patches they have come across, they are not just good friends but a band of brothers. A family!
Enjoy the documentary of Hong Kong's legendary LMF. I know I did.
